a literary genre consisting of an arrangement of meaningful and musical words. Most poems take the form of a series of lines separated into groups called stanzas. These can be rhyming or non-rhyming and often contain metaphor, alliteration, assonance and other figures of speech. A poem is usually fairly short and has the ability to say much in few words. Sometimes the rules of grammar may be stretched in poetry.
