(also called urban myth) a totally untrue story that many people believe to be true, e.g. The title of Arthur Goldstuckâ??s Ink in the Porridge, written about South Africaâ??s first democratic elections, refers to a legend that the National Party was putting ink in the porridge it served at meetings so that voters who voted for the African National Congress could be identified (voting is supposed to be secret). This was not true.
